MEL MACOUN

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy

Mel graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She lived and worked in the UK for 5 years soon after that, where she developed broad experience across different physiotherapy disciplines. Mel was established in musculoskeletal physiotherapy by the time she returned to Australia, where she spent a number of years working in public hospital physiotherapy as a student educator and outpatient manager

Mel entered into further studies in 2008, completing a Master of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in 2009. Mel began working full time in private practice with the extra skills that she had attained from Masters level studies. Mel utilises a diverse range of approaches to managing pain and movement complaints, and enjoys the challenge of solving complex pain problems. She has a broad range of manual therapy skills and complements these with good education and exercise prescription in order to give her patients the best outcomes.

Pursuing a passion for Pain Science, Mel has undergone further training in this field, and has been recognised by the Australian Physiotherapy Association with the title of “Pain Physiotherapist”. A strong knowledge of pain mechanisms and a long-standing love of teaching have provided Mel with a unique ability to help patients with persistent pain complaints to find long term solutions to their problems.

Outside work, Mel enjoys being a mother of two young boys. She is well travelled and hopes to have opportunities in the future to explore bits of the world again.
